It was built in 1902 by the Telford family and restored to its original splendor in 2004, more than one hundred years later, by current owners Barry and Kay Daniel. In 2005, the Daniels opened their private residence to the public as an antique store, restaurant (by reservation only), and rental facility for special events. Click here to see additional photos. The house was originally owned by Emma and Thomas Telford, Sr. The Telfords had three children who grew up on the property: John, Lyra, and Thomas, Jr. Both Mr. and Mrs. Telford lived here until their death, and the house was passed to Thomas, Jr., known as "Tom". Tom was born in the house on June 8, 1912 and owned it until his death on October 18, 2000. The house is now owned by Barry and Kay Daniel.
The front door, stained glass transom, molding, floors, mantles, and some lighting fixtures are all original to the house. The small barn behind the house adjacent to the pool is also original. The pecan trees on the property were planted by Tom as a child. The Burns-Telford House was given its name because the Daniels also own the adjacent property, which was built and owned by the Burns Family, parents of Emma and grandparents of Tom. Tom shared many memories of his life as a child between the two homes.
Today the Burns-Telford House sells select antiques, contemporary home decor, fashionable accessories, and an eclectic mix of many other gifts, books, and unique goods. Lunch and dinner is served by reservation and catering service and special event hosting such as bridal luncheons, baby showers, birthday parties, rehearsal dinners, and receptions. Facility rental is available for small weddings and parties. Interior decoration and design is also available. Don't be surprised if you hear an unexpected noise or think you see a shadow in your peripheral. Tom still inhabits the property in a very gentle and comforting way.
