The Gann House c. 1842

Located in the Historic Covered Bridge District, the Gann House is a historic residence circa 1841. It was constructed for then State Senator John Gann on property acquired in the 1832 land lottery. It has survived a burning by the Union Army, a sell off of its once 380 acres, and recent years of neglect.

During the Civil War the house played a significant role in Sherman's march to the sea. Union troops were encamped on the property through the July 4th 1864 Battle of Ruff's Mill. As the troops were departing they commenced to burn the house, but, in an amazing twist of events, the house was saved.

This stately residence has recently been completely restored. The electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems are new. The roof has a thirty year guarantee and the exterior paint has a lifetime guarantee. The kitchen appliances are top of the line. New insulation has been installed in the walls and ceilings, doors and windows are Thermopane and the entire house is energy efficient.

There are fireplaces in the living room, dining room and in the master bedroom. The hardwood flooring is the original heart of pine. The house boasts high vaulted ceilings, crown molding, five bedrooms, five baths, a wraparound porch, a large deck and much, much more.

The property, 1.2 acres, includes azaleas, magnolias, pecan and black walnut trees, dogwoods, a weeping cherry, crepe myrtles, and majestic photinias as well as hundreds of colorful flowering bulbs. There is also a koi pond with waterfall.
