It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as an exemplary survival, with notable integrity, of a turn of the century Folk Victorian rural homestead. The house is a one story gable front and wing design. The floorplan is a modified dogtrot with the front portion of the dogtrot enclosed as an entrance hall. Victorian detailing in the form of simple sawn fretwork adorns the porch and gables. There are two bedrooms and one bath, a total of five rooms in 1,400 square feet. A small gabled barn of the same era stands some 150 feet from the southwest corner of the house. Rehabilitation accomplished by the present owners includes new roof and re-built foundation, exterior paint, new central heating and cooling, new plumbing and wiring, new porch flooring and balustrade, and repaired kitchen floor. As all cosmetics are needed, a fortunate buyer could make his own decisions about the interior and decor. Click here to see additional photos. Camden is an old city located on the Ouachita River, 100 miles southwest of Little Rock. It has a colorful history as a river port, and many homes survive from the early days, including the local museum, which was both a family home to the Chidesters, and a stage stop for travelers on the way to points west. Civil War sites and the old homes make Camden a destination for heritage tourism. The annual Daffodil Festival in early March includes home and garden tours among other events. Local industry is centered around defense and the timber industry. Lockheed Martin, Raytheon and General Dynamics are among the employers in Highland Industrial Park. Camden population is approximately 12,000, with sister cities El Dorado and Magnolia about 30 miles distant. El Dorado is a 1920's oil boomtown; it has a charmingly restored downtown, an active arts center, and a community college. Magnolia is home to Southern Arkansas University, which also has a branch campus in Camden. Listed with Ramona Crain of Century 21, 870 837-2121, 870 818-1595.
