Pioneer Log Cabin Needs a New Home

Own a piece of American History!

This incredible pioneer log cabin features fabulous hand-hewn beams and logs - the longest is 31'! This is a Kentucky log cabin that was moved to its present location in Cincinnati (Walnut Hills) sometime in the 1920s by a wealthy family to be used as a children's playhouse on their estate. In 1960 the mansion was demolished and a high-rise condo building was erected on the site, but the log cabin remained. It has been maintained for decades but recently fell into disuse and an electrical fire broke out in the roof last year. The condo building HOA wants it moved off their property.

It is sitting off the ground on a dry surface and has an oak hardwood floor. It features a beautiful stacked-stone working fireplace with hand-chiseled stones over the mantel showing the date "1870", but I believe this cabin is actually older than that. Some of the logs are so wide they must be from old growth trees, so I suspect this cabin is pre-Civil War and the family who moved it to Cincinnati just had the chimney and fireplace stones brought in from another old building. Unfortunately, it is not known where in Kentucky this cabin came from originally, but it features "v-notching" at the corners which is a German-influenced construction method that was widely used in Appalachia during the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

Asking price is $10,000 but as the buyer will be responsibile for cost of dismantling and relocation, there is flexibility on the price. Email me today for more info!
